Navigating to ACLS Humanities E-Books

1. Go to the Dallas College Library homepage and scroll down to select the database link in the red box.

How to Search on ACLS Humanities E-Books

1. Click on the search box on the top right of the home page.

2. Type in your search keyword and click search

3. On the left side of the home page, there are filters you can use to narrow down your results. More information on each filter in the Home Page section of this library guide.

How to Access eBooks on ACLS Humanities E-Books

1. When you find an eBook that is useful, click on the book cover to access.

2. On the book home page, you can find the citable link, publication date, publisher, subject, and table of contents. Depending on the book, there will be a download button to download chapters as needed.

3. To read the book, click on the gray "Read Book" button or chapter title hyperlink in the contents section.

4. On this browser screen, you can access the table of contents, get a citation, search within this eBook, promote the book on social media and share the book, change the book orientation, go to full screen mode, and change zoom in or out preferences.

5. To change pages, click the arrow buttons or use the bar on the bottom by clicking the circle and dragging to a specific page.

Home page

Access

Narrow your search by choosing to view all content, only content you can access, or only open access content. Open access content means that the content was published without a subscription paywall and free for readers to view.

Subject 

Narrow down your search by subject by clicking on the relevant subject term.

Author

Narrow your search by choosing a specific author by clicking on their name.

Publisher

Narrow your search by publisher by clicking on the applicable publisher's name.

Series

Narrow your search if your book is part of a series that you know the series name. 

Underneath the book cover, there will be a symbol describing if the book is

  • a free resource (the word FREE with a green background)
  • accessible by the library (green checkmark)
  • if there's no access (red lock)
  • if the eBook is open access (orange open lock)

Sort by Relevance

Choose how you want to sort the results whether by relevance, author (A-Z), author (Z-A), publication date (Newest First), publication date (Oldest First), title (A-Z), or title (Z-A)

How many results per page

Choose whether you would prefer 10, 15, 50, or 100 results per page

Page view

Choose between list or gallery view for the eBook titles
