Zines

Publishing and Distribution

Congratulations, you have made a zine! Your're a zinester! You've joined the culture and community of the artistic, eclectic and rewarding world of zines. Now how do you get your zine out there?

Zines are generally self-published works. With the ability to create without having to answer to anyone, comes the responsibility of publishing and distributing. You have many options to sell, trade, or gift and hand out (the old school, tried and true method):

  • Symposiums, fests/fairs, pop up markets, zine events
  • Record stores, book stores, comic book stores, art shops, galleries
  • Libraries (public and college/university) and archives
  • Zine 'distros' and online shops or websites

Alternatively, you can post your Canva share link or turn your link (Canva or otherwise) into a QR code and share/distribute that online & physically. You can print or turn the QR code into stickers or magnets and post them around town!

Online Shops

Any selling platform that hosts anything for people to sell, will be a viable option to publish and distribute your zine. Some suggested places to start:

  • Etsy
  • Storenvy
  • Big Cartel
  • Sendowl
  • Shopify
  • Squarespace
  • Depop
  • Lulu (a site that will publish and print for you)

Zine Distros

There are tons of zine distros everywhere. This is just a suggested list to get you started!

Websites

Other online avenues to get your zine out there include:

  • Issuu
  • Gumroad
  • itch.io
  • Post link or zine information on social media (your page as well as zine account pages)
  • Your personal website or blog
  • Amazon Kindle publishing
  • Check out this blog post on "How to Publicize Your e-Zine"

Events

Zine events are the best place to find zines, connect with zinesters, grow your own collection, distribute your own work or immerse yourself in zine culture. Here are some local events, but you can zine fests and events elsewhere in the state and nationwide.
