Faculty Resources

OER Overview

Open Educational Resources (OER) are educational materials that are either available in the public domain or that have been made available through open licenses granting permission to freely retain, reuse, revise, remix and redistribute (the "5 Rs" of OER).

According to the Texas Education Code, Section 51.451, OER “may include full course curricula, course materials, modules, textbooks, media, assessments, software, and any other tools, materials, or techniques, whether digital or otherwise, used to support access to knowledge.”

OER Professional Development

The Digital Higher Education Consortium of Texas (DigiTex) offers Texas Learn OER, a set of openly licensed modules providing OER training for faculty, staff, and administrators.

The DigiTex OER website also has a list of (free) recorded webinars and upcoming live events.

Professional Development Credit

You can request Dallas College professional development credit for any of the above training.

OERTX

The OERTX repository was created to facilitate the curation of OER materials and support their creation and customization at Texas institutions of higher education. All OERTX resources are free and available to any user.

The repository was created by the Coordinating Board through a partnership with the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME) and funding through the legislature. OERTX supports the 60x30TX initiative.
